ABOUT RICH PREFFER
Born and Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rich was drawn to art and creating at a young age, a passion that he carried with him through to college. He attended Point Park University, where he received a degree in Technical Theater with a double concentration in both Scenic and Costume Design. While attending school, he worked as a scenic artist, costume shop assistant, crafts person, props assistant, and designer, working with such companies as the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, City Theater, Carrnivale Theatrics, and more before graduating.
While an undergraduate, he had the distinction of being represented in the United States Student Design Exhibit at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial for his Scenic Design of Henrik Ibsen's Enemy of the People. Shortly after graduating, he became project manager/ shop foreman for a local regional Equity theater. In 2 years, he became Production Designer for the Theater and Dance Company's full season, in addition to numerous freelance design projects. Moving beyond the theater, he transitioned into film and marketing taking with him his love of storytelling.
Now, he is bridging the gap between Production Design and Experiential Marketing, working with clients such as Aperol, Campari, Grand Marnier, SKYY Vodka, BON V!V, and Social Club Seltzer helping develop year long programs and campaigns, and acting as scenic designer for artists like VINCINT, Kalen Allen, Shuga Cain, etc. He finds a thrill in developing designs and concepts that allow for an intimate and emotional connection, whether it be to a brand or to a story. Working in Los Angeles and New York City, he is expanding and growing his portfolio with several new and exciting projects in film, editorial, and immersive marketing experiences.
